Fabian was actually the youngest olympian to compete on the German team four years ago in 2004. And although he didn't exactly manage to come out victorious in Sydney, he did leave with a lot of experience, and has returned to Beijing this year older, wiser, and ready to compete with the best the world has to offer.
Odds are you might recognize Fabian from these now famous shots taken for the German utility company, EnBW's ad campaign. I'm not exactly sure how big of a celebrity Fabian might be in Germany, but I would imagine he's probably better known than at the very least 90% of our top Gymnasts are here in the US (most of whom never even make it on TV let alone an ad campaign). The only downside (pun somewhat intended ) to Fabian would have to be his stature... as you might be able to tell from the video, he does in fact stand at about 5'4"... which is pretty good from a gymnastics standpoint I suppose. But uh, pretty short by 'real world' standards.
The height issue is offset though by his insane work ethic, resulting in top athletic form, and easily placing him as one of the favorite prospects for the German all-around gymnastics competition at the Beijing 2008 Olympics...
Morning in Melbourne really never looked so good. Thanks Fabian ...
