The Future is (almost) now...


The left most image represents the city of Dubai back in 1990... To the right is the same city in 2003. The amount of development that's taken place in this one city over the past 20 years is absolutely staggering. Below is how Dubai looked last year in 2007:

In the course of 17 years, this city has undeniably become not only a first-class city, but a leader in the world financial industry. As amazing as all this is though, the Dubai of the future is what's truly awe-inspiring.

This is downtown Dubai 2008-2009. The centerpiece building in the middle is called the Durj Dubai and it's essentially the focal point of the city, much like the Empire State building or the Sears Tower is for New York and Chicago respectively. It's an absolute monument to architectural ingenuity, and shows what's really possible when a country invests capital with a long term vision in mind.

But by far my out of the many building projects currently taking place in that country, aesthetically speaking my favorite thus is the Trump Hotel (above) which is currently in the conceptual stage. This is how I imagine the 21st century to should look like. I sometimes get the feeling that some of our preoccupations here in the US may eventually wind up with us being left in the dust?...
