The Future Looks Electrifying...

...or so you'd believe if you've been paying any attention at all to Chevy's latest sexy eco-friendly model...

Presenting the would-be messiah of an ailing General Motors, the 2011 Chevrolet Volt... a fully-powered electric car that according to GM's (arguably astounding) claims, manages to run 230 miles to the gallon (based on city driving)....

Just to put it in perspective, the Volt's closest rival (the Toyata Prius) gets about 51 mpg in city driving... So as you might imagine, GM's latest claim last week followed by its subsequent guarantee of 100mpg on highway driving, has raised more than a few eyebrows amonst competitors... And generated a lot of buzz amongst eco-car enthusiasts and industry watchers alike.
Volt vehicles will be sold with portable plug-in chargers that you can hook-up either in a home wall socket, or in a dedicated 240v unit. Couple this with GM's promise of only paying $2.75 for electricity to travel 100 miles, and you can imagine just where all this enthusiasm is coming from cool... Just think of it as a giant Ipod... that you can sit in... and look really cool while doing so mrgreen....
I'm not exactly the biggest eco-nut (to be honest, the environment doesn't really come high in consideration when selecting a vehicle at a dealership)... but the prospect of not having to hand over my hard-earned money to oil execs is really hard to ignore cool. Anyhow, you can read up more on the 2011 Chevy Volt over at Wired's Autopia blog.
