David Vance presents: Heavenly Bodies

Last year we had the great pleasure of paying a house call to a certain amazing art historian turned photographer... suffice to say I think we certainly enjoyed our stay ... This year though, I'm thinking we might be stepping out of the house just for a bit? How about taking a trip to the photographic stratosphere for a little while ...

...And meeting up with one of the photography world's icons, Miami-based photographer/artist David Vance (and a couple of his amazing friends ).

Perhaps you're somewhat familiar with some of David's past work from several issues of a popular Australian magazine?... or maybe you've had the opportunity to be amazed by some of the shots he's had to offer a little more recently for a fantastic French magazine?...

Well this year David returns with his own book Heavenly Bodies. A culmination of several years of work with dozens of models... encapsulated in 112 pages of what can only be described as photographic works of art. Drawing on his inspiration from mythology, sculptures and classical Greco-Roman art, David's new book focuses on the beauty of masculinity... accentuated with lighting, tones, and even full-blown fantastical settings as seen in the shots below.

Being that this is a book primarily focused on beautiful subjects, it only makes sense David compiled this latest project from his work with some of the most breathtaking models in the industry.... including Brian Levy, Lucas Angeloro, Levi Poulter, and of course Philip Fusco ...

Oh, and speaking of Philip Fusco... yes, I still stand by my previous statement. Hottest model of 2009 without a doubt ... Heavenly Bodies is being distributed by European publishing house Bruno Gmuender. It's slated for release in Europe later this month and here on American shores this June, but pre-order reserves are already available over at Tower Books, Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

The Beautiful Mystery

I believe I may have been enamored with this mysterious beauty below. Who is he?... and where did he come from?... I'm thinking perhaps the better question with this one might be 'when' is he from?... seeing as I kind of get the feeling this might be a vintage shot (although I may be mistaken).

He is absolutely beautiful though... Almost like a sculpture come to life only to be captured by a camera ... There's another NSFW version of him floating about... Not that I'd know anything about that of course . But yeah, perfection can be achieved at times... this guy for me is just one such example.

Edit: It's come to my attention that the identity of the photographer behind this amazing shot is none other than David Vance. The subject of this shot is a model named Michael Murphy and this photo was specifically taken for a book titled The Ultimate Book of Nudes (published way, way back in 1976).

Just Beautiful Greg

Do the clothes make the man or does the man make the clothes? Who can really say for sure. But there has to be something noted about a model like Greg here who's so strikingly beautiful he can carry off the standard cowboy look to total perfection...

So is it the outfit that makes him sexy or is the model himself that has to carry the outfit...

Granted there's no universal answer, but with Greg, I think it's safe to say it's the latter. Just astounding... These shots were taken by a choreographer/dancer turned photographer who goes by the name Zedneram. He used to have a website up (which you cab still see labeled on these shots), but from what I gather it's no longer up. Sam Rockwell diving...

Here's a clip is from a movie that I posted about months and months ago (It's since been erased so I'm re-posting)... This clip originates from a 1997 movie titled Lawn Dogs and features actor Sam Rockwell in the role of a landscaper named Trent. This particular scene takes place at the very beginning of the movie as Trent takes a small pit-stop while passing over a tiny bridge.

From the looks of things, perhaps Trent should be looking into olympic diving? Anyhow Lawn Dogs is currently available on DVD, Netflix and Torrents. I mistakenly deleted this movie before getting a chance to watch it in its entirety (don't ask me what I was thinking)... but judging from its IMDb rating, perhaps I should find the time to rent it one weekend.

To wear, or not to wear...?

So a gorgeous guy is going to bed... what clothing should he wear? Perhaps briefs? How about just plain old boxers? Or maybe nothing at all?...

"Crap, did I actually include the 'nothing' option?"... was probably one of the first thoughts that ran through my head about an hour after posting this latest completed poll. What was I thinking? And what chance did the other options have when faced with the prospect of instant gratuitous gratification ... suffice to say maybe I screwed up ...

Fortunately, all options would've in effect lead to the same beautiful outcome... or at least 'almost' all options would've lead to the same outcome. I shudder at the thought what a mess I'd be in if that last option came out on top ... (apparently 122 of you would've preferred Just Beautiful women over these gorgeous guys? ).

Nevertheless, according to the overwhelming will of 2044 people, the best attire a gorgeous guy can wear to bed is a sexy... bedsheet. Or is that a pair of sexy bedroom eyes and a nifty MP3 player ... whatever the case, much to my chagrin on missing out on posting boxers (...again...), birthday suits appear to be all the rage... and from the looks of things, it doesn't seem like they'll be going out of fashion anytime soon.

So what should a gorgeous guy wear to bed? Well, preferably he'd have to land in the bed first, and then things can get sorted out .

Presenting a buff 'totally looks like he coulda been a rugby player but turned to acting instead' Australian hottie Jai Courtney.

Jai's featured in the first episode of Australian series Packed to the Rafter's second season.. and yeah, apparently he seems to be endowed with a substantial 'pelt' (for those of you who happen to be into that ). The show looks great though, I'd love to get an American version on one of the networks, but I suppose torrents will do just fine for now.

Beautiful Nathaniel

Nathaniel, Nathaniel... I'm pretty sure that name has some spiritual reference, no?

Unreal... or should I say surreal. These shots of 25 year-old South Dakotan model Nathaniel are almost otherworldly. And yes, they're very much intended to be just that. Considering this is David Vance's photography style should it really come as any surprise?

Believe it or not, Nathan was actually discovered in a gym (can you imagine trying to workout next to someone who looks like this )... and he describes himself as being shy with a 'wild side' while sharing a fondness for karate, volleyball, and basketball.

Oh, and did I also mention he's pretty much the epitome of male beauty... since recently starting modeling, he's already photographed with a who's who of famous photographer personalities including David Vance, Hector Rodriguez, Lope Navo and Ceasar Contreras.

Nathaniel's ambition is to one day wind up on a billboard... Judging from these shots let's just say I pray I don't wind up standing in traffic if I ever happen to spot this guy on a giant billboard .

Resting Californian Beauty

Perhaps my all-time favorite shot of San Jose beauty, model Josh Keim... so what should a beautiful guy such as Josh wear to bed? I suppose bed sheets are always optional ...
