2008 Remembered in Breath-taking photography

Yet another year sails off into the clouds, gone with the wind and left forever in the annals of history for future historians to ponder and re-ponder for years to come.

As we stop for a moment to remember the year that was 2008, the triumphs and tragedies, unforeseen disasters and the ever-relentless will of the human spirit to stand through it all. Our good friends at Boston.com's The Big Picture have done the public a service and released some of the most breath-taking captures chronicling this year as it was.
From war, to the great games of a newly reemerging world power, advancements in science and technology, to disasters causing strife in almost every corner of the globe...

Even social revolution the likes of which we haven't witnessed for well over a decade...

2008 has indeed been a year for monumentous change. Definitely one for the history books... And even though 2008 might not have ended on the highest of notes, we still have hope for 2009 and beyond... maybe (just maybe cool) there are in fact better days ahead. Here's to a happy and hopefully prosperous 2009 mrgreen.
You can check out more breath-taking photography over at The Big Picture photoblog run by Boston.com. The blog started back in May of 2008 so in essence, every photo there is a beautiful capture of the year that was 2008.
